The Norman Garon Trust

Charitable Trust investing in sport and recreational facilities in Southend-on-Sea

Welcome

The Norman Garon Trust was established in 1982 with general charitable objects. However, the Trustees decided in the 1990’s to focus in particular on the provision of sporting and recreational facilities. This has developed and expanded over the years with the provision of multiple sports facilities at Garon Park, including Cricket, Football, Golf, in all forms, netball, Paddle Tennis, and operates those facilities either directly or through Garon Park CIC or commercial associates. Additionally the charity has a number of investments.

In doing this the trust also operates a number of community projects such as sports bursaries, and providing for health, wellbeing and activities for the less able.

Surplus income generated by the trust’s operations is used principally to support and promote scouting in the local and wider Essex area, and also to support various local charitable groups in the youth sector, by making grants.

The Trust has also been very active in enhancing the environment, establishing woods and other habitats and recently planting a further 7,000 trees at Garon Park.

Grants

The Trust has an arrangement with the FSJ Charity to manage its grant making other than those supporting scouting, which are all dealt with through Essex Scouts. Grants are typically of £2-5000, limited to youth projects within the Southend-on Sea, Sutton and Rochford areas. Applications should be sent to FSJ →
